Who we are

PersonalScapes ("we", "us") runs personalscapesdesign.com and is responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach us at support@personalscapesdesign.com.

What we collect

• Account info: your name, email address, and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text, and we never see it again after your account is created).
• Property info: the address, city, state, and ZIP of any property you add, plus the answers you give in the design questionnaire (sun exposure, soil type, budget tier, style, goals, maintenance preferences, and any free-text notes you write in).
• Photos: photos of your yard you upload for a design, and any photos you send to the Landscape Companion chat (e.g. to identify a plant).
• Companion chats and care: the questions you ask the Landscape Companion and its answers, your planting date, the plants you mark as watered, your reminder settings, and your time zone (so reminders arrive at a sensible hour).
• Payment info: we do not store your card number, expiration date, or CVV. Payments are processed directly by Stripe, our payment processor; Stripe handles your card details on their own secure systems, and we only ever see the result (e.g. "payment succeeded") and minimal billing metadata needed to manage your subscription.
• Usage info: basic technical information like your IP address, browser type and session data, used to keep you logged in, to protect the service (for example, to slow down repeated failed login attempts) and to count visits. Visits are counted without cookies: we store only which page was opened and a code that changes every day and can't be traced back to you.

How we use it

We use the information above to: generate your landscape designs (matching plants and layout to your property's specific conditions and your stated goals); power the Landscape Companion chat and reminders, personalized to the plants actually in your design, including care reminder emails you can turn off at any time; process payments through Stripe; and operate, secure, and improve the app.

We also use your property's ZIP code (or city and state) to look up local rainfall, so watering reminders can mention a recent or expected soaking rain. We send you emails about your account, purchases, password resets and care reminders; we don't send marketing emails.

If you're in the European Union, the UK or a similar place, our legal reasons for using your information are: to provide the service you asked for (your account, designs, Companion and payments), our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and counting visits without cookies, and legal obligations such as keeping payment records.

Photos of your property

Photos you upload of your yard are used only to generate designs for your own account and property — they are never shown to other customers, used to train a publicly shared model, or shared with any third party except the AI image/chat providers strictly needed to generate your design or answer your Companion questions (who process them on our behalf and are not permitted to use them for their own purposes).

The one exception: with your permission, we may show one of your finished designs on our home page as an example. We'd ask you first, and we never show your name, address or notes. Tell us any time and we'll take it down.

Cookies and sessions

We use a session cookie to keep you logged in between pages, plus two small preference cookies: one remembers the language you picked, and one remembers that you closed today's care reminder banner. They're necessary, functional cookies, not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. We don't use third-party analytics or advertising cookies; we count visits ourselves, without cookies.

Who we share data with

We share data only with the service providers needed to run PersonalScapes: Stripe (payments), OpenAI (to create your design pictures and write-ups and to answer your Companion questions), Resend (to send our emails) and Railway (which hosts the site and its data). We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share your photos or property details with other customers or with anyone else for marketing purposes.

We also send your property's ZIP code (or city and state), never your name or street address, to Open-Meteo, a free weather service, to get local rainfall. OpenAI says it doesn't use information sent through its API to train its models, and keeps it for up to 30 days to watch for abuse. We may also share information if the law requires it, or with a new owner if PersonalScapes is ever sold, under this same policy.

These providers are mostly in the United States, so your information may be stored and processed there, even if you live elsewhere. Where the law requires it, they protect it with standard safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account, property, and design data for as long as your account is active, so your designs and Companion history remain available to you. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time on your Account page (click your name at the top of any page), or by emailing support@personalscapesdesign.com from the email address on your account. Copies left in our backups are deleted on a rolling schedule within 60 days. We keep only what we're required to for legal reasons (for example, Stripe keeps its record of payments, as tax law requires).

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it for something. Email support@personalscapesdesign.com from the address on your account and we'll answer within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for asking. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority. We don't sell or share your personal information for advertising, as California and other US state laws define those terms.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data (password hashing, access controls, secure cookie settings), but no system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us right away.

Children

PersonalScapes is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above, and email you before any important change takes effect.
